The Distinct Types of MS
Most patients (about 85%) are initially, formally diagnosed with Relapsing-Remitting MS (RRMS). This type involves clear, devastating attacks (relapses) of new or worsening symptoms, followed by prolonged periods of partial or complete physical recovery (remission). Over time, without highly aggressive treatment, RRMS can slowly transition into Secondary Progressive MS (SPMS), where physical disability steadily and permanently accumulates without any clear relapses.

- Specialized Blood Tests: Used primarily to strictly rule out other mimic conditions (like severe vitamin B12 deficiency or lupus) and to carefully check for highly specific antibodies (like the AQP4 antibody required for an NMOSD diagnosis).
